My project explores the sixth sense, and our ability to actually see the hidden things that exist around us, such as ghosts, spirits and other creatures.
When I started my research on the sixth sense, I was interested in the many occult methods that allows the user to see things beyond our usual sense of vision, including ghosts and even the future.
I decided to explore how artistic methods can show this experience of seeing beyond the veil, and how these same artitic methods can be used in practicality to see ghosts and spirits.

Series 2 – Canvas, 50X70 cm, acrylic and pastels, surrealistic techniques
I decided to use a surrealistic technique called "Automatism", in which the artist draws on the canvas freely, without any plan, and only looks for meaning and shapes in the finished picture after the fact.
This technique was actually inspired by the occult, trying to mimic the trance state occultits would go into when trying to contact ghosts and spirits.

Series 1 – Zoom in/out, an attempt to show the creatures looking down at us from beyond the limits of our normal sight.

Pop-up book mechanics - different prototypes/mechanics.

These protorypes were meant to illustrate the "revealing" experience, showing that there are things that are hiding behind the covers of what we usually see.

After experimenting with physical mediums, I decied to move to a digital medium, using P5 and chatGPT to write the code, using images I made by hand using Procreate.
I decided to use the Mandala as the main object that will be used in these prototypes, giving the users a "mystical" symbol that can be interacted with easily.
Prototype 1 - Interactive Mandala
Prototype 2 - Revealing Game
A mandala that can be twisted and affected by multiple, differnt filters.
The mechanics of this prototype were later used in the final project.
A game where player needs to spin the rings in order to reveal the creature, each playthrough is differnt as the correct position of each ring is random.
This prototype built upon the interactive mandala, removng some of the interactable eleements in favor of a simple gamplay mechanic.
Final work
What would emotions look like when given a form of a spirit?

I wanted to create a game that combines between the patterns of the mandala, and the experience of revealing something that is usually unseen.
